Our physicians undergo a rigorous training process, beginning with an on-line program that uses a series of sample charts that take the physician through sequential steps in learning the rules and regulations related to severity-adjusted DRG coding, both in MS DRGs as well as APR DRGs, where applicable. This is followed by one-on-one training with our Clinical Director, using a series of sample charts that take the physician through sequential steps in learning the rules and regulations related to DRG coding. They are then trained in the use of coding software. Query writing and the use of our SQL database are the last critical elements of this phase of the physicians training. Finally, they go to a hospital, where they sit with an experienced physician-auditor, and review charts. Performance is measured and feedback given. When the physician demonstrates consistent proficiency, they are assigned work as a DRG auditor. Monthly feedback is provided to all physicians. Reports are provided on their productivity, financial results, and quality measures. They are compared to their peers within a particular hospital and across all client hospitals. |
